Save a child with childhood cancer
I am a childhood cancer survivor.
About 40 years ago, I developed childhood cancer.
It is a type of rare cancer with very few cases.
The cancer (cancer) is a cancer that develops in the bone called osteosarcoma.
I developed cancer only in the summer of 10 years old.
I like the summer season the most, but that summer was a very painful summer memory that I will never forget.
From my experience as a childhood cancer survivor at that time, I would like to talk about the feelings, thoughts, and hearts of children with childhood cancer.
Although it was rare at that time, my doctor told me that I had cancer.
Nowadays, notifications to children with childhood cancer are, in some cases, more and more recommended.
As my parents understood and agreed to my doctor’s thoughts, I was informed by the teacher of the following:
・ Cancer has developed in the bone
・ This cancer is difficult to treat
・ Surgery is required
・ There is a high possibility that cancer metastasis has spread.
・ Make an incision in the abdomen and discontinue surgery if metastases are widespread.
・ If cancer metastasis has spread to the right foot, amputate the right foot.
When I came out of the operating room and noticed that my right leg was missing, my doctor’s doctor decided to give advance notice so that I wouldn’t panic.
At that time, I couldn’t calmly listen to the above announcements. Later, my mother asked me many times, and I was able to grasp and understand the whole picture. I was in the third grade at that time, so I could understand it from the above explanation, but I think it is very difficult to explain for younger children.
As mentioned above, the announcement is difficult to use in the explanation, but there are other difficult problems.
Next time, in “Saving Children with Childhood Cancer (2) [Notice]”, I will explain something very important.
