Image that saves life
[What I did before surgery in the final stage of childhood cancer]

When I was 10 years old, I developed a cancer called osteosarcoma.

Osteosarcoma is a cancer that develops in the bone and is a rare cancer with few cases.

I had developed and metastasized to the cartilage and surrounding tissues at the base of my right foot.

The metastasis had spread to the lower abdomen and was diagnosed as a life-saving condition.

The doctor in charge explained the consent to amputation of the right leg.

Furthermore, it was explained that even if surgery was performed, if the range of metastasis exceeded the treatment limit at the time of incision of the affected area, it would be decided to abandon the continuation of surgery.

[Understand the worst situation]

There were no promising words or explanations from my doctor.

At the age of 10, I couldn’t immediately understand this [worst case].

However, when I was notified of cancer by my doctor, I saw my mother sitting next to me crying.

[I’m dying]

On that day, my surgery day was decided.
Due to the status of cancer metastasis, the operation was highly urgent.

In such a desperate situation, before I was hospitalized, I did the following:

・ I picked up what I cherish (my treasure) and kept it neat and tidy.

I was going unconsciously.

[What I was doing before the cancer was announced]

Actually, I had been doing it shortly before the onset of cancer was discovered.

・ I was giving a part of my treasure to my school friends

Presenting a treasure before the cancer announcement had nothing to do with cancer.

Before the cancer was announced, something very strange had happened.

There is no way to tell how much what I was doing had an impact on the success of the surgery and the treatment of cancer.

However, I think it was at least a calming effect for me.

Perhaps a person unknowingly prepares when he or she reaches a turning point in his or her life.

I had surgery, miraculously saved my life, and left my right leg.

From the probability of medical technology at that time
It was a miracle of about 1 in 10 million.

At the age of 10, one in one million people develops a rare cancer (osteosarcoma).
Cancer notification, amputation of right leg and life expectancy from the attending physician. From my own experience, I would like to convey the hearts of cancer patients, especially children with childhood cancer, to the world.
